Borepatch(pbuh) is brilliant, and you should read him every day. His writing on liberty, firearms, computer security, and music are all top-notch. He’s also a damned prolific writer — the modern-day version of Lope de Vega, el “Monstruo de Naturaleza”.
Today he’s particularly insightful as he calls for us to vote for Obama rather than Schrödinger’s Candidate Romney, suggesting that with a Republican in the house the Tea Party will wither and die. He’s likely correct in that analysis, as Tea Partiers under Romney will be as calm as anti-war protesters under Obama. He writes
The GOP in general, and Mitt Romney in particular are big-government, big-spending, big-intrusion-into-our-business. The Republic is facing a fiscal crisis – the nation’s credit has been downgraded, the Entitlement programs are just now tipping into a bottomless sea of red ink, the middle class has been hammered with collapsing housing valuations, persistent unemployment, and a higher education bubble that is ensuring that our children graduate with so much student debt that they will never be able to marry.
I agree with him that a Romney presidency would be a disaster for the country, and will savage the Republican party. The thing is, a second Obama term would do exactly the same. Why? Because the Republican elites have shown that they’re rotten to the core, aren’t interested in smaller government and more freedom, and cannot be trusted. Tea partiers and other patriots need to acknowledge that fact and move on. America will not be able to move forward until the Republican party itself is destroyed, and a party truly committed to liberty is put in its place.
So what should we do come election day? Some say the rational thing is to not vote at all. Others suggest that voting for the least repellent candidate is the way to go. Me, I figure voting for a third-party candidate you respect is more moral that the first 2 options. Without our votes and financial support, these smaller parties can’t hope to grow larger and push aside the old guard.
They say that in the long run we’re all dead, and that’s true of parties and civilizations too. Hopefully the Stupid Party and the Evil Party will be dead before America is.
Update: Og from Neanderpundit and Aretae have some very insightful responses. They’re both a lot smarter than me.
